E-Commerce

Definition: the buying and selling of goods and services on the Internet, especially the World Wide Web. 


E-commerce can be divide into:

  1. E-tailing or "virtual storefronts" on Web sites with online catalogs, sometimes gathered into a "virtual mall".
  2. The gathering and use of demographic data through Web contacts.
  3. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), the business-to-business exchange of data.
  4. E-mail and fax and their use as media for reaching prospects and established customers (for example, with newsletters).
  5. Business-to-business buying and selling.
  6. The security of business transactions.

E-Banking
Definition: A system allowing individuals to perform banking activities at home, via the internet.



Online banking through traditional banks enable customers to perform all routine transactions, such as account transfers, balance inquiries, bill payments, and stop-payment requests, and some even offer online loan and credit card applications

Account information can be accessed anytime, day or night, and can be done from anywhere. A few online banks update information in real-time, while others do it daily. Once information has been entered, it doesn't need to be re-entered for similar subsequent checks, and future payments can be scheduled to occur automatically.

Security while online transaction


















Firstly, it is very important for the Internet banking user to read the Terms and Conditions of use carefully. This contains a hint at the key legal issue, namely the obligation of the contract parties and the liability, which bank customer should be aware of.

The Internet banking user must safeguard the authorization data. Do not reveal your PIN or passwords to anyone and regularly changing them if possible.

By access the Internet banking website, the user must make sure, that the correct URL and browser have been used. Type the bank URL yourself and do not click on any automatic hotlink found in an E-mail or other website. And properly log off and close your browser after using Internet banking.

Make sure that anti-virus program is running at all times, so that the computer does not become infected with spyware. And keep the program update regularly.

Avoid using Internet banking in the public places. And if possible, limit your access and transfer amount at a time.
Monitoring your online banking account regularly and contact the bank and the authorities immediately, if you suspect you are a victim of fraud or theft.

Ignore the Phishing mail, bank will not ask for password or PIN via E-mail. Be aware of the risks related to Internet banking and exercise special care.

Learning and communicating cannot be separated. Why? Ask yourself how learning happens? The answer is vary but for me learning process starts with communicating involving the educator and the learners. It's just that simple :)

In this post I'm going to duscuss more on e-learning & online communication. The way to communicate by using internet has many options, it is like the variety of food offer in a buffet. Just a simple comparison. One can e-mail, chat, conference, join online forums, voice call, video call and even learn online which is called e-learning. 


 
In order to send an email to another person we just need a PC, internet connection plus an email account. I'm sure all of you have already aware with it right. Email can be used in transferring announcement within organizations, conveying personal message and other purposes. 


Since that already clear, let me move on with ways in being an effective team player in online forums.
  1. Demonstrates reliability
  2. Communicates constructively
  3. Functions as an active participant
  4. Shares openly and willingly
  5. Cooperates and pitches in to help
  6. Exhibits flexibility
  7. Shows commitment to the team

Well, have you ever involve in any type of online communication via any website at all? Well since internet established, it has contributed many benefits towards us such as:-


Online forum
Definition:A medium for open discussion or voicing of ideas.

Online forum for instance, helps those with any inquiries at all. Where a user can be a user group for a private discussion session or even be a guest/ visitor to leave any suggestion or comments.


In order to use online forum effectively, a user must get used with having an administrator, be a moderator and beware of any troll, spam and any thread.

Wikis
Definition: A web site that allows anyone to add, delete, or revise content by using a web browser. (taken from /Dictionary.com/wikis/)


Benefits of using Wiki:
  1. Advanced document and content management/development through open and simple editing access that encourages participation by many parties.
  2. Facilitating collaboration and communication between people in networks and enhancing knowledge building, sharing and searching.
  3. Easy building of directories, mapping of social networks and simple profile management.
  4. Simplicity and ease of use compared to the older collaboration tools such as SharePoint, Lotus Notes, etc.

Behave or Not? Your Choice.




Lets us move on with a juicier topic to discuss on. Before that, what I mean by this entry's topic is actually 'netiquette' that is a collection of social conventions which convey the way of interaction between one another on the Internet.

There's always a limit in everything, like when surfing the net or anything related to it. This is to ensure the users' safety aspects will not be violated since in today's situation the cyber-bully is famous especially among the teenagers. 


    • Use the Internet to help with schoolwork.
    • Use the Internet to meet children in other countries
    • Be careful with your personal information
    • Respect the privacy of other users on the Internet
    • Be careful when you copy ("download") programs from the Internet.

        • Don't give your password to anyone.
        • Don't arrange to meet anyone you've met on the Internet
        • Don't try to break into computers.
        • Don't make copies of any copyrighted material
        • Don't copy material that you find on the Internet and pretend that it's your own work.

          Whatever it is, the choice is in you hands. use the internet wisely :)
